The Renegade Nexus at Bakersfield College is a unique service that aims to support the basic needs of BC students. Students have access to food resources, health resources, transportation resources, and more.

This week, the Renegade Nexus partnered with ClipDart, a mobile haircare company, to host ‘Styled for Success’ - an event that offers BC students free haircuts and styling. For two days, several ClipDart stylists set up shop in the Renegade Campus Store and students were able to walk in or set up an appointment for haircare services. More than 50 students received haircuts or styling during the event, many of whom were getting ready to participate in the upcoming BC Commencement ceremony.

Caitlin Davidson, Program Manager of Basic Needs, had this to say about the event, “By providing free hair services, we are making sure that students have the ability to look and feel their best. Additionally, by bringing the service to the student, it reduces the barriers of cost, transportation, and finding someone with the knowledge of diverse, culturally appropriate hair care.”

There may be future opportunities for students to receive hair care services through similar events. “We want to host more ‘Styled for Success’ events in the future,” said Davidson, “Our hope would be to host at least one each semester.”
